Eddie Fields

Eddie S. Fields, 82, of Elyria went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in O’Neill Healthcare, North Ridgeville following a long illness.

Eddie was born on Thursday, May 13, 1937 in Winterville, MS coming to Elyria, OH in 1942.  Mr. Fields was employed 18 years at Harshaw Chemical; and 23 years at Ford Motor Company until retiring in 1997.

Eddie has been a longstanding member of Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist church of Elyria; He began attending the church with his family at the age of 7 and throughout the remaining years with his own wife & family.  Eddie served as Deacon & Trustee at Mt. Nebo.  He was also a member of the Male Chorus & Senior Choir.  He was an avid sport fan, his favorite teams included Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians & Cleveland Cavaliers. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, barbecuing his famous ribs & frying fish for his family and friends. 

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Mearlean Fields of Elyria, OH; Daughter, Denise (David) Ammons of North Ridgeville, OH; 3 sons: Eddie Jr. (Stephanie) Fields of Lorain, OH; Dennis (Denise) Fields of Philadelphia, PA and Dwayne (Michelle) Fields of Lakewood, OH. Sisters, Jean Armstrong, Bonnie Santos and Martha Whitfield, all of Elyria, OH; Brother, LaRue A. Whitfield of Elyria, OH.  13 Grandchildren & 16 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Father - Eddie Fields Sr; Parents Foster and Elmira (nee Ross) Whitfield; Daughter – Cathy L. Mitchell; Brothers - Charles Fields, Robert Fields and Louis Fields.  Sisters – Frankie L. Fields, Lorraine Whitfield, Ruth Jackson, Mary Whitfield, Sylvia Rivera, Joanne Bush and Juanita Martin.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Nebo Church, 452 Mussey Avenue, Elyria, OH.  Service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, OH, where Pastor Mark H. Taylor will officiate.  Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, OH.
