(Deacon) Robert Newton Obituary

Deacon Robert Newton transitioned to his forever heavenly home peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on Wednesday April 10, 2019 at the age of 85. He was born in Camden, Arkansas, July 17, 1933 to Aggie Mae Henderson and Clinton Newton where he lived for 16 years before he embarked on a journey with his uncle Henry that would eventually bring him to Ohio, settling in Elyria in 1950. He accepted employment at E. Hyman Company in 1951. Not Long after his arrival in Elyria, he met Miss Betty Elizabeth Fortune; they married in 1953 and would have been married 66 years in May of 2019. In May 1965, Robert accepted employment at Ford Motor Company,(UAW 425), Lorain and was later transferred to the Ford  Avon Truck plant when it opened. He retired in March of 1997 after 32 years of service. In 1981 Mr. Newton accepted Christ Jesus as Lord of his Life and not long after, under the leadership of Dr. Richard Brown, he was ordained a Deacon at the Second Calvary C.O.G.I.C. in Elyria. He served as a member on the trustee board and the Sunday School Teacher for Second Calvary for over 30 years. He was faithful and dedicated to his ministry and to his God. For the past 3 years he has been under the leadership of Pastor Rick Johnson. Mr. Newton was an avid fisherman. He loved to go fishing in his boat, especially with his children. He’s also famously known for his fish fry’s and hush puppies. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed watching old westerns and played solitaire on his phone and dominos. He cherished his time with his family, especially during the holidays. As a devoted husband and father, he instilled early in his children the value of hard work and love of family above self. His passion and love for family is only is only surpassed by the God he serves. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife Betty, daughters: Robin Newton-Wright of Atlanta, GA, Cheryl (Chris) Barbee of Durham, NC, Bridget Newton of Elyria, sons: Gregory (Yvonne) Newton, Steven (Renee) Newton both of Lorain, Robert (June) Newton of Mary Esther, FL, Kevin (Lori) Newton of Columbus, and Andrew (Cynthia) Newton of Lorain, brother: Larry McNeal, sisters: Debbie and Kathy McNeal all of Buffalo, NY and Ruby Green of Camden, AR, 23 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, a special nephew Michael Fortune, Best Friend Deacon Adam Beckett and a host of nieces and, nephews, other relatives and friends. There are those who went before him, granddaughters Courtny Barbee and Qiana Newton, mother Aggie Mae Henderson, father Clinton Newton, brothers Clyde Lewis and L.T. Henry. Services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service 12:00 p.m. at Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Ave., Lorain, OH 44052 where Pastor Diana Lindsay is pastor.
