Charles Newton Obituary

Charles Newton 76 of Elyria, Ohio passed away on July 29, 2018 at Rae-Ann’s Nursing Home of Westlake, after a short illness. He was born on September 24, 1941 in Rocksbough, North Carolina.

Charles was a lifetime resident of Elyria who worked and retired from US Steel after 30 years. Charles loved sports especially boxing as he was a Golden Gloves Champion in both the Welterweight/Middleweight divisions. Charles was an Army veteran who enjoyed sports, gardening and cooking.

He was preceded in death by Johnnie Newton (wife); parents, William and Mozell Newton; and brother, Leon Newton.

He is survived by his sisters, Barbra Ringo of Detroit, MI., Georgette Newton-Gill of Fayetteville N.C., and Jacquie Benifield of Augusta, Ga.; brothers, William Newton of Atlanta Ga., Ernest Newton of Kileen, Texas,  Troy Newton of Elyria, Oh;  and 3 sons, Charles Newton of Elyria, Ohio, Marcus Newton of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mandel Newton of Atlanta, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Friends and family may call at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 127 West Bridge St. Elyria, Ohio, on Sunday, August 5, 2018 for the viewing from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The going home service will be Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00am with a viewing before the service at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Elyria. Burial is at Brookdale Cemetery..
