Johnnie Lee Evans

Johnnie was born in Maringo County, Alabama on September 22nd, 1937. He was born to Daisy Capers and Antony Evans.

Johnnie attended Maringo County Schools. In 1965 he came to Oberlin, Ohio. He then moved to Elyria where he started his job at General Motors. When he moved to Lorain that's when he opened his own restaurant called AJ's barbecue and Grill. Johnnie was also known by his nickname "Sheik." Some of his many hobbies were cooking, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. Johnnie was a devoted deacon at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for many years.

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Mary Evans, his daughters: Doretta Mediadilla (Rogue) of Lorain, Patricia Pouncy (Rafe) of San Antonio, Texas, JaNina Reed (Jason) of Elyria, Ohio and April Conteh (Columbus), a bonus daughter he raised Niajah Covington (Trevor), two sons: Johnnie Evans Jr. of Columbus, OH and Michael Brunson (Vatima) of Bowie, Maryland. Johnnie has 14 grandchildren, 3 God children: Samayah James of Lorain, Alena Allen of Lorain and Vincent Rogers of Elyria, a host of nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday February 16th, 2024, at 10am with a celebration to follow at noon, located at New Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church 2340 Crehore St Lorain, OH 44052.
