Gwen Johnson 65, transitioned from this life on Sunday, April 7th, 2024. She was blessed to enter this world on November 23rd, 1958, to Clarence Thomas and Creola Johnson in Elyria, Ohio. She was a graduate from Elyria High School and furthered her education by taking classes at LCCC.

She was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 26 and diagnosed with brain and lung cancer at the age of 59; needless to say, she was a fighter and an inspiration to many of us. The Lord saw fit to call her home so that she wouldn’t have to fight any longer and be free from pain and suffering.

Gwen loved to cook! Many of us enjoyed some of her famous dishes such as fried chicken, potato salad and cornbread dressing. The love that she had for her family and friends was certainly felt by all who she encountered. She was the most kind-hearted and selfless person in the world; her smile, laugh and her sense of humor are going to be greatly missed. Listening to down home blues was one of her favorite things to do, especially with her dad. More importantly, Gwen loved God and was not afraid to let anyone know that she did.

Gwen leaves to cherish her memories daughter; Michelle Gibbons, grandchildren; Kordrick Gibbons Jr. and Nehemiah Jeffrey Duane Gibbons, sisters; Brenda Jones (Willam) and Gladys Johnson, brothers; Cornelius Johnson, Eddie Carl Johnson (Laurie), T Arthur Johnson, Anthony Johnson (Tutrish), stepmom; Linda Thomas and a host of other relatives and friends that loved her deeply.

She was preceded by her granddaughter Shardae Gayle Gibbons, sister; Gloria Johnson, mom; Creola Johnson and her dad Clarence Thomas.

A viewing will be held Wednesday April 17th at Carter Funeral Home 127 W Bridg St Elyria, OH from 6pm-8pm

A calling hour will be held on Thursday April 18th at 10am with a celebration of Life to begin at 11am located at Faith Ministries 1306 Euclid Ave Lorain, OH.

Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery 41600 Oberlin Elyria Rd Elyria, OH
