Richard Wallace West was born October 26, 1962, to Richard and Deloris ‘Jump’ West, Sr., in Wheeling, WV. He was raised by his loving grandparents Henton and Elizabeth West. He was the first of 6 children. As a child he attended Second Baptist Church in Lorain where he was baptized. He gave his life to Jesus and was baptized again as an adult at Body of Christ Church in Lorain. He attended Hawthorne-Boone school and Admiral King High School. During those years, he was a Golden Gloves boxer and is in the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame. He was employed by the Lorain Journal newspaper. Richard enjoyed washing and detailing cars, avid sports fan, dancing, poetry, cook-outs with the family and inspirational texting. He leaves to cherish his memory: a son Richard West, III, brothers: Ricky ‘Teddy’, Nathaniel ‘Tiny’ West and Robert Harris all of Lorain, sisters: Michelle of Oberlin, Annette (Roderick) Franklin and Patricia ‘Pat’ West both of Lorain, aunts: Charleen Jeans, Darlene Johnson, Marilyn ‘Pea’ Flanders, Renae ‘Pusha’ Johnson all of Lorain, uncles: Tyrone ‘Nebo’, Eugene ‘Moby’ Flanders, Robert Franklin Johnson, all of Lorain, Booker of Tiffin, Dewey Johnson of California and Joe (Rosa) West, Sr., a special friend, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Richard now rest peacefully as a forerunner who is also a part of the great cloud of witnesses who preceded him in death: parents Richard and Deloris, maternal grandparents Mattie Johnson and Lester Flanders, paternal grandparents Henton and Elizabeth West, uncles and aunts: Dewey, Helda, Eddie, Austin, Maudie Mae, Katie and a brother Andre West. 2 Timothy 4:7; I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course and I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day. Friends may call Tuesday January 16th, 2018 from 12:00 noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, OH 44055. Elder Rodney Thomas, pastor of Body of Christ Church will officiate. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Carter Funeral Homes, Inc., 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, OH 44055.
