Reuben H. Maxey 72, passed away peacefully on Friday August 26th, 2016. He was born August 9, 1944 in Glen Allan, MS to the late Reuben H. and Jennie Lee (nee Jenkins) Maxey Sr. Reuben received his early education in Glen Allan, MS and moved to Ohio in 1959 with his mother as a teenager. He graduated in 1963 from Elyria High School. Reuben embarked on his working career with U.S. Steel in Lorain and then moved onto work for General Motors in Elyria and Sandusky locations. He remained a hard working employee for 35+ years retiring in 2004. Reuben will be remembered as kindhearted, friendly, and talkative and commented to his family and friends. He enjoyed cookouts, music, reading, watching sports and traveling. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Phyllis, his children Anthony ‘Tony’ Maxey of Elyria, Marc (LaQuita) Maxey of Indianapolis, IN, Anthony Bumphus and Felicia Bumphus both of Elyria and Celicia Maxey of Charlotte, NC, mother-in-law Gertrude Walker of Clifton, TN, ten grandchildren and a host of cousins and many friends. Reuben was preceded in death by his parents Reuben H. and Jennie Lee (nee Jenkins) Maxey Sr., grandmother Savannah ‘Sister’ Jenkins, grandfather Joseph Maxey, his dear aunt Aola (Huffy) Huffman, uncles Percy ‘Buddy’ Jenkins and William G. Maxey, special cousin Dr. Joyce Jenkins and his loving down home Glen Allan friends. Friends will be received on Friday September 2, 2016, in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel 127 W. Bridge St., Elyria, OH from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 noon. Burial to follow in the Brookdale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Carter Funeral Homes, INC 127 W.
