Obit of Emma M. Burks Emma M. Burks, 94, of Elyria went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2016 in the O’Neil Healthcare of N. Ridgeville, Ohio following a long illness. A lifelong resident of Elyria, a graduate of Elyria High School and was self-employed as a Domestic worker for many area homes and families. Mrs. Burks also helped clear B-17’s and B-24 Bombers in WWll when they returned home from their missions at Coronado Navy Station. She joined Second Baptist Church of Elyria at an early age and volunteered for many churches and organizations. She enjoyed reading her Bible and traveling. She is survived by daughter Shonia (Michael) Russell of Elyria and son Richard L. Johnson Sr., of Elyria, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, her caregiver and special friend Barbara Berry of Elyria, brother Ret. Col. Charles Gary Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gary, sister Shirley Owens and brother Rolland Gary.
